Stop Wasting Your Heat
Let’s be honest: heating wafers is usually a bit of a mess. If you’re using standard quartz lamps, you’re basically paying for energy that never even touches your product. Those lamps radiate heat in every single direction. Half of that power just vanishes into your machine chassis. It’s a waste. We figured out a better way. We use gold-coated reflectors to catch that stray energy and push it right back onto the wafer.
Why Gold?
You might wonder why we don’t just use polished aluminum. Aluminum is fine for things you can see, but we’re dealing with infrared (IR) radiation here. Gold is just better at this. It bounces IR waves with incredible efficiency. When you use a gold-plated surface, almost every watt the lamp pulls actually hits the target. You get a massive jump in heat flux without having to touch your voltage or crank up the wattage. It’s just smarter physics.
The Catch (Because there’s always one)
Here is the thing: concentrating this much energy into a small space puts a lot of stress on your gear. Your lamp housing is going to feel the heat. If your cooling system is weak, you’re asking for trouble. Without enough airflow, those electrodes will oxidize and burn out way faster than they should. You’ve got to make sure your cooling can keep up with the intensity. We usually pair these reflectors with short-wave halogen sources. The result? Your wafers hit temperature in seconds. It’s fast. Really fast. And that makes a huge difference in your daily throughput.
Getting it on the Floor
The best part is that you don’t have to tear your whole line apart to make this work. These units are a simple drop-in. We build the reflectors to fit the lamps you already have, so there’s no need to mess around with your power supply or rewire the cabinet. You just swap your open-lamp setup for a focused system. You end up drawing less total power per wafer, but your surface temperature stays exactly where it needs to be. Simple.
