We put a thin layer of gold on the reflector to change how the heat moves. Gold is incredible at bouncing infrared (IR) radiation. Instead of the heat soaking into the housing and warming up the metal, the gold layer kicks those IR waves right back toward the wafer. It turns a scattered glow into a concentrated beam. The heat goes exactly where it needs to be. Here is the best part: because we’re focusing the energy, you don’t have to crank up the wattage to get the temperature you want.
